‘Follow process on deported priest’
Zambia -Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Kennedy Sakeni has
advised people calling for the revocation of the deportation of Catholic
priest Father Viater Banyangandora to follow the right channel by
writing to the Government, instead of speaking through the press.
Mr Sakeni, who is also Chief Government Spokesperson, says the
government, through the relevant authorities, is ready to consider the
concerns regarding the deportation of the Rwandese national.
He however said Government is reluctant to engage in discourse over the
matter, based on media reports and without any clear submissions from
the aggrieved parties.
He said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that members of the
public should follow proper channels when airing their grievances
regarding the deportation of Fr Banyangandora, by writing to the
government, instead of using the media.
“Government wishes to advise those calling for the revocation of the
deportation of Fr Banyangandora to make their submissions using proper
channels. Up until now, Government is only learning of these calls and
appeals through the media.
“If there are any grievances related to this matter, Government, through
the relevant authorities, is ready to consider such concerns, as long
as proper channels are followed, as enshrined in the laws of the land,”
Mr Sakeni said.
