Victims Of Flood To Get N400m Compensation
About 2,284 flood victims in Toro Local Government Area in Bauchi State, Nigeria, are to benefit from a N400 million compensation fund, an official said.
Alhaji Mohammed Garba, Chairman, Sub-committee for the Disbursement of the compensation to Flood Victims, told newsmen that the amount was part of N900.6 million released by the Federal Government as compensation to flood victims in Bauchi state.
"N400 million will be distributed among them from the N900.6 million received by the state government from the Federal Government for disbursement to all flood victims.
"A total of 2,284 victims will benefit from N9.6 million earmarked for compensation in Toro Local Government Area," Garba said.
He commended the beneficiaries for showing maturity in their conduct and them to make good use of the money.
He also advised the people to desist from farming or erecting structures on waterways to avoid future blockings that may lead to more flooding.
He reminded them that building houses on waterways could lead to the loss of lives and property which was the case last year.
