Nigeria University Commission Hold Emergency Meeting to Suspend UNILAG Over Bedbug Plague

No comments :

The latest gist in town is that Unilag hostel, common rooms and classrooms are infested with bed bugs. Early this morning, students decided to protests about the epidermic that is spreading throughout the campus. The Nigerian University Commission (NUC) also held an emergency meeting in the early hours of this morning to decide the necessary sanctions for the university after the protests.

The Nigerian University Commission (NUC) has decided to suspend the University of Lagos (UNILAG). The decision to suspend the university was based on health reasons, chief among which is the Bedbug epidemic. This decision was reached after series of reports and complaints emanating from the school.

The university authority in its defense stated that a number of fumigation exercises have been carried out to put an end to what has now come to be known among the students as the 'Bedbug Plague'. A top official of the prestigious institution who pleaded anonymity told our correspondence that,
"the fumigation exercise is usually carried out during the holidays when students have vacated the residence".
Bedbug infestation is a social stigma as well as a health crisis and we should all frown at the inability of the university to prevent the spread of bedbug in the campus.Sanctions should be extended to other universities where student health and safety is not made a priority.
