Bed Wetting Is Not Witch-craft Or Curse, It Is A Mental Health Problem –Coordinator

No comments :
I still remember from back in the days when some folks who carried bed wetting habits into their adolescents age were called all sorts of names. Well this report from Ghana will shed more light on Bed wetting.

Bed wetting is a mental health problem and strict adherence to drugs can cure it, Mr Joseph Yere, Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinator of Mental Health Services has stated.

He however, debunked the perception that bed wetting is linked to curse and witchcraft, and advised victims to seek prompt and regular medication.

Mr Yere made this known at a training programme for health workers, traditional healers, pastors and prayer camp operations in Berekum.

It was organized by Mission of Hope Society (MIHOSO), in collaboration with Brong-Ahafo Network of Non-Governmental Organisations (BANGO) and attended by about 100 participants drawn from Berekum and Dormaa Central Municipalities, Jaman North, Jaman South, Dormaa West and Dormaa East Districts.

The workshop aimed at building and strengthening capacity of the participants, drawn from Dormaa Central and Berekum Municipalities, Dormaa West, Dormaa East, Jaman North and Jaman South districts to promote community-based mental health services.

Mr Yere explained that bed wetting could be hereditary, those who seek early medication and strictly adhere to drugs would be cured.

He said four patients were cured of bed wetting in the region in 2014, explaining that his outfit attended to three to five cases.

Mr Yere disclosed that last year the region recorded 3000 cases of mental disorders among some of them were as a result of marital problems, depression, drug abuse especially, smoking of Indian hemp.

He expressed concern about inadequate supply of psychotropic drugs noting that there had been a shortage of drugs since October 2013.

Mr Yere said because the National Health Insurance Scheme did not cover most of the drugs, many patients could not afford for regular medication.

He observed that Lack of collaboration between psychiatric staff and District and Municipal Health Directorates was great challenge, adding that lack of vehicles also makes it difficult for staffs to go for their outreaches and home visits.

Mr Yere spoke against public stigmatization of people with mental illness stressing that public stigma prevented patients from seeking medication.

Mr Gabriel Gbiel Bernakuu, Chief Executive Officer of MIHOSO stressed the need for psychiatric nurses to help reintegrate cured patients in society.

This he observed would also help encouraged other patients to stay on medication and entreated parents not to hide their children with mental disorders in homes but assist them to seek treatment.

Woman Dies After Husband Pushes Her Out Of A Moving Car

No comments :

It's strange how domestic violence has destroyed so many marriages and people take it less serious. A 40-year-old man has been arrested and detained by the Ghana Police for allegedly killing his 30-year-old wife, Josephine Amankwah. The suspect, Kwame Owusu was said to have pushed his wife from a moving car, while dragging her on the ground at Dadiesoaba, near Goaso but unfortunately was said to have died on reaching the hospital.

The deceased popularly called Yaa Baby who was reported to have had a quarell with the husband after she spotted him with another woman in his vehicle in the town, confronted her husband demanding him for GH¢1,000 she once borrowed from her mother to take care of him when he was sick.

Apparently the couple who have an 18-month-old child were having marital issues before the incident occurred.A sister to the deceased, Esther Amankwaah who confirmed the incident to Daily guide, said Ahinkan ignored her sister and drove away while she was hanging on the door for about 400 metres and later pushed her to the ground, killing her instantly.
She said the deceased, whose remains had since been deposited at the Goaso Government Hospital, suffered severe head injury and bruises on her legs.

Ghana Shopping Mall Collapse: Four Dead

No comments :

A multi-storey department store has collapsed in the capital of Ghana, Accra, trapping dozens of people in the rubble.
Rescue efforts are continuing, with officials saying that at least four people died in the Melcom store.
The BBC's Sammy Darko, who has visited the scene, says 42 people have been pulled out alive.
Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama said he had suspended his campaign for next month's election.
The government has declared the area in the city's Achimota neighbourhood a disaster zone.
Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur went to the site and co-ordinated rescue efforts at the building, which opened earlier this year.
As night fell, hundreds of rescuers continued to dig through the rubble, amid fears that more people were trapped.
Mr Amissah-Arthur said the building had collapsed shortly before the Melcom store was due to open for business.
Rescue efforts were being hampered by the large crowd that had gathered at the site, he added.
"There's so much noise that it's not possible to hear the trapped people asking for help," Mr Amissah-Arthur said.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Melcom said it had rented the building which housed its Achimota branch on a 10-year lease.
"This is indeed a very tragic incident," it said.
"We are doing everything possible to see that help reaches those who need it. Our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies goes to the families of those who may have lost their lives."
Our reporter says customers often queue outside the store before it opens and officials say they believe about 50 people may been inside at the time of the collapse.
Eyewitness Ama Okyere told the AFP news agency she was very close to the shopping centre when the building came down.
"I had to run for my life. I was so terrified. I believe there are lots of people trapped under this because this is a heavily patronised shopping mall in the area."
Family members tried to call relatives feared trapped beneath the rubble on their mobile phones, AFP reported.
Another witness, John Owusu, said he heard a bang before the building collapsed.
President Mahama, in a tweet moments after the building collapsed, said: "My prayers are with the workers, shoppers and others who are trapped in the rubble of the Achimota Melcom building."
He has cut short his campaign in the north of the country and has flown back to Accra to see the rescue effort.

Sperm Selling Business Booming In Ghana

No comments :
Sperm has become one of the hottest commodities being sold in Ghana and many parts of the world. The target market for this new booming venture are couples suffering from male infertility, l*sbian couples, and single women who pay huge amounts of money to access it.

According to latest reports, sperm has become one of the hottest commodities being sold in Ghana. The target market for this new booming venture are couples suffering from male infertility, lesbian couples, and single women who pay huge amounts of money to access it.

“Selling of sperm is gradually becoming the new business frontier booming in Ghana because it has many uses in today’s society: making babies, sperm banks, and putting volume in limp hair in order to make it long,” a medical student at the University of Ghana Medical School, who sold sperm five times to a Fertility Centre in Accra for GH¢10, 000 ($5,280), told Economic Tribune (ET). The medical student, who gave his name only as Mensah, said even though selling of sperm was a risky business, it was also rewarding as well.

“I use the proceeds from this business to pay my fees and also support my close pals. Who knows how long I will continue? But whatever happens, I know I can look back on many happy families that I have helped to create,” he stated. Mrs Naomi Suame, a shop owner at East Legon and many parts of Accra, has been married for 15 years and has two children, none of whom biologically belongs to her husband.

“I discovered my husband was infertile when we got married after two years. But I wanted to experience motherhood. I decided to have artificial insemination. I have never cheated on him. I just got sperm from a willing seller and got two healthy babies.

Is that not wonderful?” she asked. In the case of Naomi, she got a young man from the University of Cape Coast, paid him GH¢12,000 ($6,322) and took his sperm, which she used twice to get the babies. “Sperm is one of the scared commodities for many of us. There is a high demand for it and many young men are going into this venture selling their sperm to help others, who needs it for one reason or the other,” Naomi explained.

Investigations conducted by ET revealed that due to the huge capital outlay of the process, women have now devised a way of beating the system by getting donors (sperm sellers) whom they take to the Fertility Centres for harvesting at a cheaper cost and then having the sperm induced in their uterus’s.
