5-year-old boy sent away from school for having long hair (PICTURED)
The boy’s mother, Ursula Martin, said that her son’s hair was not a problem in the previous school that he came from. The family had just moved to Hockley. Martin could not understand how the length of his son’s hair could affect his education. Martin said: “He doesn’t feel like he should have to cut his hair to go to school.”
Schools, usually, have certain protocols, guidelines and rules that they implement to allow organized and smooth operation of the school. These guidelines are observed to promote a healthy and safe environment. These rules could range from wearing of school uniforms, to required short haircuts, to no hair colors, to wearing of IDs, and to proper grooming.
Proper grooming could include an appropriate haircut, a proper uniform or clean, decent school dress and correct identification cards. Most schools require short hair cropped above the nape, and some just require students to do as they please. Still some schools would require male students to have hair that does not cover the ears.
