Oscar Pistorius Declared Mentally Perfect When Shooting His Girlfriend Dead

No comments :

After over a month break, the murder trial that has firmly put South Africa on the world's focus more than anything else has resumed.

Olympian, Oscar Pistorius returned to the dock after a month of psychiatric tests. And according to a psychiatric panel and a psychologist, the Paralympian champion Oscar Pistorius, who is facing charges of murdering his girlfriend, is not mentally ill.

Reading from the psychologist report, one of two reports that said the star runner should be held criminally responsible, State Prosecutor Gerrie Nel said:
"Mr Pistorus did not suffer from a mental illness or defect that would have rendered him
criminally not responsible for the offence charged."

The star sprinter has tried to argue that a "generalised anxiety disorder" contributed to him shooting dead his 29-year-old model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year. Oscar admits shooting Steenkamp with a 9mm pistol through a locked toilet door, but says it was a mistake as he thought she was an intruder coming to attack him in the dead of night. Source

No Manslaughter charge for Oscar Pistorius, charged with Premedited murder of his girlfriend

No comments :

Six time paralympian sprint champion, Oscar Pistorious was in court today and was formally charged with the premeditated murder of his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. To get a lesser charge he admitted to shooting his girl friend mistakenly. After admitting to shooting his girlfriend Reeva mistakenly, his lawyers had been hoping for the lesser charge of manslaughter. Oscar claimed he shot Reeva dead in his home on Thursday February 14, 2013 after mistaken her for an intruder. Thankfully the courts didn't buy his story and he will now face a murder trial which will run from now to March 20 2014 at North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

The sprint champion could also face extra charges of allegedly discharging a firearm recklessly in two other incidents. If found guilty of premeditated murder, Oscar could be spending the rest of his life in jail.

Oscar Pistorius gives his side of the story the night he shot dead his GF

In a statement read out to Pretoria magistrates court, the Paralympic athlete (left) claimed he had been on the balcony of his house when he heard noises from the bathroom.

He said he had felt 'a sense of terror' before firing through the door and hitting Reeva Steenkamp four times. It was only then that he realised she was not in bed.

The bail hearing had to be suspended after Oscar Pistorius broke down. It is now likely he will spend months in jail before trial as the judge ruled the case would be treated as premeditated murder.

In Port Elizabeth, 600 miles away, Reeva's distraught mother, centre, and family were attending her funeral, with a modelling picture used for the order of service, right,

Charges: Oscar Pistorius is pictured with his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Miss Steenkamp was shot dead at Mr Pistorius' home in Pretoria today

Taken down: Adverts for television coverage of the Oscars featuring Oscar Pistorius were seen being pulled down in Johannesburg today

A Nike advert featuring Oscar Pistorius and describing him as like a 'bullet in the chamber' has been removed from the sprinter's website today hours after he was charged with shooting dead his model girlfriend.

A banner of the advert, thought to have been made in 2011, was visible on Oscar Pistorius's website earlier today but has since been taken down.
Removed: Workmen move quickly to replace the roadside posters in the South Africa city

Alongside a time lapse picture of Paralympic gold medalist Pistorius springing from the starting blocks reads the caption: 'I am the bullet in the chamber.'

It was removed just hours after he was charged with shooting dead Reeva Steenkamp at his Pretoria home.
The 30-year-old model was shot four times in the head, chest and arm.

Nike today extended its 'sympathy and condolences to all families concerned' today but refused to comment further as the matter is now a police issue.

Pistorius has long been the poster boy of disabled sport, never more so than since he made headlines around the globe competing at the Olympics and Paralympics in London last summer.

But with the champion sprinter making headlines of a different nature after he allegedly shot dead Reeva Steenkamp, 30, at his home in Pretoria, his star already appears to have fallen.

A television station has already also pulled an advertising campaign featuring Pistorius following his arrest.
The South African station M-Net said it is no longer using the adverts that were to promote its coverage of the Oscars on February 23.

Billboards featuring Pistorius in a suit with the slogan 'Every night is 'Oscar' night this February' were pictured being removed in Johannesburg today.
